My Thoughts On Success In The Real Estate Industry April 10, 2025

Don’t let your agent tell you what you want to hear!

The Real Value of a Real Estate Agent? Someone Who Tells You What You Need to Hear.

Let’s be real—buying or selling a home is one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll ever make. You don’t need a cheerleader. You need a guide. Someone who’s not afraid to give it to you straight, even when it’s uncomfortable.

You need the agent who says:

  • “That offer is too low—your goal is to win the offer.”

  • “We need to fix this before listing, or buyers will walk away.”

  • “The market isn’t going to give you what you want just because YOU love your kitchen remodel.”

I cannot count how many times I hear agents discussing being client advocates by telling them what to think and or how to react in a given situation.  One of the statements that I make to every client is the following: “it is my job to advise you, it is your job to tell me what to do”.

It can be tempting to work with someone who always agrees with you, but that kind of approach can cost you time, money, and more importantly, serious stress due to unmet expectations.

The right agent isn’t trying to flatter you—they’re trying to protect your investment and get you to the finish line with confidence knowing you made the best decision at the time.

So when your agent tells you something you don’t want to hear? Take a moment. It might be the most valuable thing they say.
